Searching the Internet Podcasting Hardware and Software
I’m occassionally asked what equipment I use to do this podcast. The following is my studio equipment both hardware and software.
• Marshall MXL990 condenser microphone ($50)
• Behringer UB802 mixer ($50)
• Griffin iMic USB audio interface ($35
• Garageband for recording and editing
• Audio Hijack Pro (mainly for recording Skype interviews; $32)
I like the MXL990 mic since it has a great sound and is fairly inexpensive. I got mine with a shock mount and carrying case for about $50. The Behringer UB802 is a nice small mixer that works well and is also about $50. I consider these two pieces of equipment to be the “standard” hobby podcast setup.
I have two different portable systems; one ultra-portable and the other just portable.
Ultra-portable:
• iRiver ifp895 mp3 recorder ($50 refurbished online)
• 2 Radio Shack lapel mics for recording interviews ($22.50 each)
• A handheld Sony F-V120 mic for “on-the-street” impromptu interviews ($20). This particularly mic has a mini-plug which plugs directly into the iRiver
Portable setup:
• Samson C01U USB condenser mic ($79). This plugs directly into my laptop.
I use the Samson USB mic when I’m traveling and want to record.
For Software I use Garagband primarily and here are my current settings:
