This quick tip covers the new Yahoo Audio Search. Yahoo now gives you the ability to search across various online music stores as well as podcasts and other audio content on the web. It is great for finding all kinds of audio in a variety of way and has several option to help you find exactly what you want. I’m a big fan and will definitely use it in the future.

AIIP Presentation on Bookmarklets

I recently gave a talk at the Association of Independent Information Professionals (AIIP) conference on using bookmarklets. I recorded the audio and decided to put that together with the slide presentation to form a screencast. Here’s the description from the conference brochure.

Using Bookmarklets to Improve You Web Browsing Efficiency

In this session, learn how to improve you web browsing experience regardless of which web browser you use. Learn what bookmarklets are (small javascripts) and how to use them to easily accomplish tasks that we all perform everyday. Perform the same search on other search engines, translate foreign language pages, convert long URLs to short ones, highlight search terms on a page, and many more in one click.

This site allows you to use the same query and just select which search engine you want to use. It has a wide choice of areas to search such as blogs, the web, audio, video and many more. It’s one of my favorite sites and I use it extensively now.

In Searching the Intenet Quick Tips number 5 we cover Scandoo, a way to ensure the sites you find with Google, Yahoo, MSN or Ask are safe sites based on preferences you control. The results are displayed with a green checkmark for sites that are okay, a red sign with an X if they violate one of your setting in your preferences and an orange question mark if scandoo doesn’t know the site or hasn’t scanned it.

This is the fourth episode of Searching the Internet Quick Tips and this one focuses on the site Worldcat.org. This site allows you to find library materials such as books, compact discs, and recordings at a library near you. You can refine your search results and then locate a library nearest you that has the material. You can even go directly to the library’s card catalog. I highly recommend this site if you have a need for a book or other reference and it isn’t in your local library. You can think of this as one giant library card catalog for most of the world’s libraries.
